Crescent Santa at The Davenport Grand

Coat of Arms Icon

On display November 28th in the lobby of The Davenport Grand, the original 13 foot Santa once graced the awning of the Crescent Department Store in Downtown Spokane as part of a magical Christmas display. After the Crescent closed, Santa was purchased by the Conley family and continued for 32 years welcoming Christmas shoppers to the White Elephant store on East Sprague. With the closure of the Conley family business, they felt it fitting that Santa be reunited with the Crescent window displays that have been carefully restored back to life at the Davenport Grand.

“Davenport Hotels have long been a special place for our family beginning when our founder and patriarch, John R. Conley, who worked at the Historic Davenport, charged with delivering Louis Davenport his daily newspaper and ensuring that the lobby fire was always burning. We have celebrated most every major event from weddings, birthdays, and holidays in the magnificent ballrooms of the historic hotel. We are indebted to the Davenport Hotel for the opportunity to return Santa to a home where he will be readily available for the enjoyment of future generations. We offer this gift as a means to express our profound gratitude for the years of patronage, service, and friendship that afforded us a blessed life in this beautiful community.”
